NAVCA supports the Local Government Association in call for volunteers to get council tax discounts

NAVCA has supported the LGA in their calls for community volunteers to get discounts on their council tax bills. The Local Government Association (LGA) said volunteers saved the public purse millions through their efforts and deserved some financial recognition.

Whilst recognising that there may be practical issues, it is really encouraging that the LGA both recognises the value of volunteers and recognises that volunteering needs support. Too often the cost of supporting volunteers is ignored.

On the BBC website Neil Cleeveley, acting Chief Executive of NAVCA is quoted as saying, "So many of the things we value most in our community are made possible by volunteers, whether it is running sports clubs, friends of local parks groups or lunch clubs. It would be good to see the value of all that great work that volunteers do being recognised in this way."
