New Chief Executive announced for Worcestershire County Council

Following a competitive recruitment process for a new Chief Executive, Worcestershire County Council has announced the appointment of Clare Marchant following a formal decision by full Council on 13 February. Clare is currently Assistant Chief Executive and will bring a wealth of knowledge from her previous extensive experience in the commercial sector, her national role in the NHS and almost four years at the Council.

Following the announcement, a joint communication was issued by Trish Haines and Clare Marchant::

The process of recruiting the next Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Council is now complete with Clare Marchant's appointment agreed by Council earlier today. Clare and I both thought it appropriate that we jointly email you all to confirm arrangements for the next three months.

I will continue as Chief Executive until 31st May 2014 to enable a full handover, with Clare taking on the role from 1 June. During this period Clare will be using the time to meet key leaders in Worcestershire and establish closer relationships with other councils and regional/national partners, and increasingly focusing on future planning and change.

The challenges ahead are very real, both financially and in the way this organisation changes itself to ensure it is fit for the future, working with residents, businesses and partners towards a Worcestershire that is economically prosperous and with resilient, vibrant communities.

We are both committed to making this transition smooth for all involved and believe that the extended handover period will get the Council off to a good start on plans for the next 4 years.
