Worcestershire’s One-Stop Shop for Volunteering

The Transforming Local Infrastructure project which developed this website included volunteering as one of the 3 key strands. Project partners included accredited Volunteer Centres whose work focused on identifying ways in which volunteering can be more responsive to the different needs of individuals and voluntary organisations across the county.

Through this project we have been able to launch several initiatives to make it easier to find out about volunteering and volunteering opportunities in Worcestershire. Individually they all help to promote the benefits of volunteering, but collectively these initiatives offer a “one-stop-shop” for current and prospective volunteers in Worcestershire.

  • The Volunteer Centres across the county have previous experience of working together and were awarded a partnership quality accreditation. Through this and other work we have developed some shared practices, and will therefore be branding appropriate materials with the Volunteer Centre Worcestershire logo to present a unified approach to volunteering.
  • This single branding is complemented by the development of this Worcestershire Voices website (www.worcestershirevoices.org.uk) for the voluntary and community sector in Worcestershire. Within the website there is a single gateway to volunteering information, opportunities and support from the Volunteer Centres located across the county, enabling a wider choice of electronic communication as well as personal, face-to-face contact. Click on the Volunteering Slide from the Home page or read this
  • Worcestershire Volunteer Centres have also recognised that there is now a great deal of interest in “micro-volunteering” for people who have limited time available but would still like to take part in voluntary activity. A “Flying Squad” project has been set up to promote single, short-term or one-off opportunities or team challenges that many organisations offer on a regular basis. These will be held on a central, web-based calendar and organisations will be invited to promote their opportunities here. A simplified, registration process will provide interested volunteers with a “passport” to the organisations offering these opportunities. These one-off opportunities will also appear in our RSS feed of volunteering opportunities around the county. Read and sign up to the Volunteering RSS feed on this website.
  • A Volunteering Strategy for Worcestershire has also been written to reflect the changing face of volunteering, which has been affected by the economic pressures on statutory service provided by local councils, and consequently the increasing demand for volunteers to support front-line services. The strategy is available as a consultation document on this website and we welcome views and comments from all partners involved in volunteering.
